Our Doctors: Bruce W. Haims, MD


Bruce W. Haims, MD, received his bachelor's degree from Clark University and his medical degree from the New York University School of Medicine. He served his internship at Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan and later his residency in General Surgery at the same institution. Following his position as Chief Resident at Bellevue Hospital, Dr. Haims served as Clinical Instructor in Surgery. In 1966, Dr. Haims received his Board Certification by the American Board of Surgery.

After serving as a Lieutenant Commander in the United States Navy in Iceland, Dr. Haims returned to the States in 1968 to join the Donahue Surgical Group in Elizabeth, New Jersey where he was associated until 2000. He became a staff member of Alexian Brothers Hospital in Elizabeth, New Jersey, in 1968 and was chief of surgery there for four years. He then served as Chief of Surgery at Elizabeth General Hospital. Dr. Haims also served as an attending physician at St. Elizabeth Hospital from 1968 - 2000.

When Elizabeth General and St. Elizabeth Hospital formed Trinitas Hospital in 2000, Dr. Haims was named to the Emeritus Staff of the new hospital. In 2003, Dr. Haims joined the staff of the Trinitas Hospital Center for Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Medicine.

A Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Dr. Haims has held memberships for more than 35 years in the American Medical Association (AMA), the Society of Surgeons, the New Jersey State Medical Society, and the Union County Medical Society.
